Sew, a needle pulling thread

This is my little creative corner. I know it looks ridiculously tidy but I have only just set it up, I was without a table for a while, I bought this one the other day from the Salvation Army for £8 and it is the perfect size. Had it been any bigger I wouldn't have room to scrabble about on the floor cutting things out. My sewing machine is only a few years old, it isn't brilliant but it does what I need it to do. The overlocker is probably the best thing I ever bought, I reckon it has paid for itself many times over. I bought it from my landlady (whose pictures and furniture you will see in my photos, I can't wait for the day I can 'do' my own house again), it is a proper metal one and will hopefully last for years. Muriel the model is my dummy, she helps me to fit things properly and is currently waiting for me to make a slip cover as I don't like the sticky fabric she's made from.
The cardi coat is one I made for a friend, she gave me a pile of jumpers she no longer wore. I left them in a pile for weeks as I was really worried it would look awful as the colours just didn't go. Once it was finished though it really worked, the colours don't photograph well but in real life it really works. I have one in black which I made out of wool jumpers, I think it is my favourite garment ever.

Also pictured is my current crochet project, a rainbow star blanket. It's brilliant to work on as the colours make me feel happy, I think I love rainbow things even more than I love black. It is going to be much bigger with 4 repeats of each colour.
I love being creative and there's nothing better than knowing you've made something yourself.
PS Sorry the photos are in such an appallingly random order!

  2. I am so jealous of your creative corner! I am desperate for a dressmakers' dummy.

I'm also mega impressed with your star rug! I can't imagine the time and effort that went into that splendid piece.

  3. My poor sewing machine has been relegated to the loft, I'd love to have a sewing space like yours, it looks awesome. Can't wait to see your next creation :) xx

  4. I love the coat and the star blanket is so gorgeous.
Did the blanket take a long while to make?

  5. Ooooh I am coveting that star blanket muchly. As the world's most inept knitter I think crochet is far beyond my abilities though!

  6. Love the starghan, it looks brilliant in bright colours. I'm so envious of your little crafty corner. It's so much better than having to take over the dining table.

  7. Thank you everyone, such lovely comments =) Vicki it's not finished yet but it goes surprisingly quickly as it is a simple pattern and very repetitive.
Alex, once you've got the hang of it crochet is SO much easier than knitting! Only one stitch to keep track of you see.
